The British artist Walter Crane was one of the most productive children’s book illustrators of the 19th and 20th centuries. Among others, he illustrated the Children’s and Household Tales of the Brothers Grimm, Cervantes’ ‘Don Quixote’ and Oscar Wilde’s collection of fairy tales ‘The Happy Prince’. His artworks show influences of Japanese colour printing techniques and Italian Renaissance painting. As an aluminium or foam board print, Crane’s works convey a sense of both simplicity and opulence.
